The Earth Charter – Preamble

“We stand at a critical moment in Earth’s history, a time when humanity must choose its future. As the world becomes increasingly interdependent and fragile, the future at once holds great peril and great promise. To move forward we must recognize that in the midst of a magnificent diversity of cultures and life forms we are one human family and one Earth community with a common destiny. We must join together to bring forth a sustainable global society founded on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace. Towards this end, it is imperative that we, the peoples of Earth, declare our responsibility to one another, to the greater community of life, and to future generations.”

We are standing at the crossroads. If we follow the path and continue with life as usual it will inevitably lead to environmental and societal collapse. These pages are about the many ways in which people, groups, and communities are working to avoid the worst of it, networks that offer webinars, talks, courses, education, action for “The More Beautiful World Our Hearts Know is Possible” [a book by Charles Eisenstein]. These are the Cultural Creatives of our times, the change makers, the grass root movements, the people who always think they are alone, and yet here they are, thousands of them, millions even. We have to work towards regeneration, sustainability is a misnomer. There is nothing sustainable about the way things are.
This has been an ongoing journey for me for a long time, but it turned out to get more urgent over the past 5 years. If we want to educate ourselves, there is a lot out there on the web of all things, and what I am trying to do is to organise it in one place to the best of my ability. There is a huge amount of material to sort and make accessible, and this site will probably never be finished as such. New material has to be added as it arises out of the depths of this collective mind.

There is a spiritual dimension to it, too. I see it as a journey, and a form of giving to the community in the hope that it is helpful for anyone who is seeking. I avoided calling this the collective unconscious, because that is not what the interweb is, though it might be fed to some degree by it. The shift in consciousness necessary for the massive changes that lie ahead is under way, the question is whether it will gain enough momentum in time to change the current paradigm. This is part of my contribution towards it.
